Nestled in the heart of Gig Harbor, Canterwood Country Club is a hidden gem for couples seeking a romantic and intimate wedding venue. Recently, I had the honor of photographing Alexandra and Matt’s wedding there, and let me just say — it was nothing short of magical.

From the tender moments shared between loved ones to the breathtaking views of the lush green golf course, this wedding reminded me why I love capturing love stories in the Pacific Northwest. If you’re considering a wedding at Canterwood, or simply dreaming of a day filled with charm and elegance, read on!

Morning Bliss: Getting Ready for Forever

The day began with a peaceful buzz of excitement. Matt, looking sharp and channeling serious James Bond vibes, got ready in a classic black suit and bow tie. He also was from England, which made this even more funny. He exuded calm confidence as he adjusted his cufflinks and shared a few laughs with his best man. Meanwhile, just a few doors down, Alexandra was the picture of grace, getting ready alongside her sisters. Their laughter and heartfelt moments as they helped her into her elegant lace gown set the tone for the day: warm, personal, and deeply meaningful.

One of my favorite moments was capturing Alexandra’s mom putting in her veil. It’s these candid, unscripted moments that make wedding photography so rewarding. Whether you’re envisioning a grand celebration or an intimate gathering, these behind-the-scenes snapshots create memories that last a lifetime.

Dodging the Rain: Outdoor Ceremony Perfection

The Pacific Northwest is known for its unpredictable weather, and Alexandra and Matt’s wedding day was no exception. Luckily, the ceremony went off without a hitch under clear skies. Surrounded by the club’s towering trees and vibrant greenery, Alexandra and Matt exchanged vows in front of their closest family and friends, creating a truly stunning outdoor setting.

After the ceremony, the rain decided to make an appearance, but it only added to the cozy and intimate atmosphere of the day. We took family photos indoors while waiting for the drizzle to subside, making the most of the warm and elegant indoor spaces at Canterwood. Moments like these show how a little flexibility can lead to beautiful, unexpected memories.

There was something incredibly moving about the intimacy of it all. With less than 20 guests, every word, every smile, and every glance felt so personal. If you’re thinking about a small wedding, trust me when I say the connection and closeness are unmatched.

Portraits on the Green: A Photographer’s Dream

After the ceremony, we made our way to the golf course for portraits. Canterwood’s sprawling greens and manicured landscaping provided the perfect backdrop. Even with the clouds lingering overhead, the scenery was vibrant and full of life.

Alexandra and Matt’s chemistry made my job easy. From stolen kisses to playful laughter, they made every shot feel natural and genuine. One of my favorite portraits was taken near a small patch of trees where the light peeked through, highlighting Alexandra’s flowing dress and Matt’s dashing silhouette.

Rain or shine, Canterwood’s outdoor spaces are a dream for wedding photography. If you’re planning a wedding here, don’t be afraid to embrace the PNW weather — it often results in some of the most breathtaking and unique shots.

An Intimate Reception to Remember

The reception was held in one of Canterwood’s cozy private dining rooms, perfectly suited for an intimate gathering. With soft candlelight, elegant floral centerpieces, and heartfelt toasts, it was a dinner filled with love and joy.

Alexandra and Matt kept the evening relaxed, savoring the moments with their guests. The smaller guest list allowed them to connect with everyone, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Pro tip for couples planning an intimate wedding: a small guest count means you can splurge a little more on personalized touches, like custom menus or a curated playlist that reflects your love story.

Later in the evening, we snuck away for a few more portraits with their classic car. The vintage vibe of the car, combined with the twilight glow, added a timeless touch to the collection of photos. It was the perfect way to end the day.
